I wasn't expecting much from Madlax given that it looked like a tired retread of Bee Train's last big "chick assassins" show, but Madlax really hooked me, even despite Yuki Kajiura's same tired old crap on the soundtrack.

Personally I'm a fan of Yuki Kajiura's soundtracks, and the music from the series is similar but at the same time different to that of Noir. You can tell it's by Yuki Kajiura, but to me it's a lot closer to the music of .hack//SIGN than that of Noir.
Volume 1 is pretty slow, and when you finish watching it, you'll probably be more confused than when you started. I haven't watched the Japanese track yet, but the english language version is superbly done, with many stand out performances.
"Conversations with SSS" is a great extra, and if you enjoyed the ones on volume 1, you are in for a treat in volume 2 and volume 3!

Kirika, common girl with a deadly skill but suffers from amnesia. v
Margaret, statemented severly autistic.
Ms. Kajiura's score sounds like a musical quilt made from the leftovers from .Hack and Aquarian Age.
It looks and feels like an animated version of Scrapeheap Challenge.
