Amecon 2008 UPDATE

The committee are blown away by this years sign up response that is unprecedented in fan-led convention history.

Chairman William Blewitt is urging those who have not yet signed up to get on their computer quick as registrations hit 90%.

He said:"It's fantastic to see the fans so excited about the convention. We knew registrations were going to move quickly, but none of us expected more than 1,000 sign ups in 10 days - that's truly astounding."

On December 4th (16 days after registration opened) sign ups had reached more that 90% (1189 members) leaving fewer that 150 places left to be filled.

Will said: "The great thing about early sign ups and payments is they allow the committee to explore new ideas for guests and events with enough time to organise them."

Though nothing has been confirmed, interest has been expressed by industry professionals from top anime shows such as Naruto, Samurai Champloo, Witch Hunter Robin, Tenchi Muyo and Last Exile.

Other highlights could include more competitions for gamers and more UK anime premiers on top off great events and cosplay opportunities but it is all still to decide with more than eight months to go before the convention kicks off. All we can promise is that we will keep you updated.

Registrations Officer, Kate Bentley is thrilled. She said: "The registrations process has been made even easier this year by letting members pay for their registration using a credit/debit card. This makes it quicker for people to secure their place at Amecon 2008, and is more versatile so that people without a cheque book can still register!

"It's really important that people apply for their place as soon as they can as more people paying quicker means that we can secure more special guests!"
