The Ed Man Cometh

November 28th 2007, Dublin Ireland: With the success of Eirtakon 07 MK II still fresh in everyone's minds, the committee has but one announcement: the Ed man cometh!

By that we mean that none other than Vic Mignogna, the voice behind Full Metal Alchemist's main protagonist Edward Elric, will be our star guest at Eirtakon 08. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony for Eirtakon 07 MK II, which was met with massive applause by the 250 strong attendees in the room.

Eirtakon 07 MK II proved to be the most successful anime convention Ireland has ever seen, with over 370 attendees over the course of the three days. People from all over Ireland and abroad came to Dublin to take part in cosplay events, games tournaments and art competitions. Over 30 people took part in the cosplay competitions and in total over 50 people dressed up as their favourite anime and manga characters, adding a unique and celebratory atmosphere to The Hub, Dublin City University's premiere event facility.

Throughout the weekend attendees were spoil for choice. On top of screenings running from opening until closing (AMV Hell proving to be particularly popular), a dedicated PS2 was set up just for Para Para Paradise, numerous discussion panels were held, dozens of random spot prizes were given out by committee members, a hugely popular made & butler cafe was open on Saturday and Sunday, cosplay and Japanese fashion showcases drew huge crowds and a manga library area, where people could chill and read some of DCU's Anime & Manga Society's books, was in constant use.

Over the next few days, expect the Eirtakon website to be filled up with with pictures, videos and reports from the convention!

Just remember... the Ed man cometh!

Expect big announcements on guests, traders, events and a few surprises starting from early next year.

Eirtakon 08 will again take place in The Hub in Dublin City University, one of the most up-to-date event facilities in Ireland, and will be happening on the last weekend of November 2008.
