Stunning New Anime Series 'Ergo Proxy' on DVD

"EVERYTHING ABOUT ERGO PROXY IS RICH AND IMPRESSIVE, FROM THE GORGEOUS MUSIC, TIGHT WRITING AND PURPOSEFUL EPISODE-END CLIFFHANGERS TO THE SOPHISTICATION OF ITS FUTURISTIC SOCIETY." – SCI-FI.COM

Directed by Shuko Murase (Witch Hunter ROBIN; Samurai Champloo) and scripted by Dai Sato (Samurai Champloo; Casshern; Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex; Cowboy Bebop), ERGO PROXY comes to DVD having already attracted considerable attention due to the fact that Radiohead liked it so much they allowed the producers to use their song "Paranoid Android" as the show's closing theme.

A futuristic, science-fiction suspense thriller with Gothic cyberpunk undertones, ERGO PROXY is a uniquely stylized anime series guaranteed to appeal to fans of cinematic sci-fi thrillers such as Blade Runner, Minority Report, A.I., Dark City and I, Robot, all of which it brilliantly references, both stylistically and thematically.

In a world ravaged by ecological disasters and nuclear warfare, the surviving humans are forced to co-exist with their android servants, Auto-Reivs, in a huge domed city called Romdo. A utopian dream where every aspect of life is controlled and regulated, Romdo is a paradise where feelings have been discarded and emotions are no longer required.

But this peaceful idyll is threatened by a series of murders believed to have been committed by berserk robots, sent out of control after becoming infected with the Cogito Virus, which has made them aware of their own existence. Tasked with investigating the murders are Re-l Mayer, a young female inspector from the Civilian Intelligence Office, and her AutoReiv partner, Iggy. During the investigation, Re-l is brutally attacked by a deformed phantom creature, of neither human nor android origin, but is saved by the intervention of an unknown individual who immediately disappears from the scene. Shortly before the attack, Re-l had received a strange message heralding the "awakening". As yet unknown to Re-l, it is this mysterious phenomenon that will eventually draw her away from Romdo and out into the desolate lands beyond the safety of the city's limits.

Meanwhile, the global government is conducting secret experiments on a mysterious humanoid life form known as Proxy, an entity believed to hold the key to the future survival of mankind.
