God Eater Anime’s First PV Features Protagonist

A PV for the anime adaptation of the God Eater games has been released by Bandai Visual and it shows some of the setting and characters that will feature in this summer 2015 title.

The story of the game is set in the near future, a time when beasts known as Aragami rule the earth and humanity is on the verge of extinction. All seems lost when a company called Fenrir creates weapons known as God Arc and equips an elite force with these weapons so they can fight back.

Video game fans may remember the game God Eater Burst, an action RPG game similar in style to Monster Hunter, which was released in the UK on the PSP back in 2011 with a sequel released in Japan in 2013. Animation studio ufotable (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works) are adapting under the direction of  Takayuki Hirao, episode director on Death Note and director of the God Eater Prologue OVA released for the first game. He is working with character designs by Keita Shimizu (Minori Scramble! key animation and Fate/Zero animation director on a number of episodes). The music is by Go Shiina whose work can be heard on Kyousogiga, and the God Eater games.

Also returning from the games are some of the voice actors including Maaya Sakamoto (Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell) and Hiroaki Hirata (detective Shinichiro Hata in Patlabor WXIII). While the main protagonist in the games was customisable (sex/voice/hair/skin tone/voice) the anime series has a hero and his name is Renka Usugi and he will be played by Ryuichi Kijima. His voice can be heard in many different anime from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure to Star Blazers 2199. His biggest roles to date have been as Argyllo in Beast Saga and Torimaki B in Beyblade: Shogun Steel.

The anime premieres in the summer season on July 05th.
