Trailer for Mamoru Oshii’s Film Tokyo Stateless Girl

A trailer for Mamoru Oshii’s latest film has been released by the film’s official website and it’s a live-action production.

The film is about a talented girl in an art school. She is a genius who is surrounded by adults who want to use her and envious classmates. As she struggles with her daily life she begins to fall apart.

The film stars Nana Seino (Wood Job!, Danger Dolls, Tokyo Tribe) in her first lead role as the stateless girl, Ai.

Mamoru Oshii will be well-known to UK anime fans because Manga Entertainment built themselves up on a lot of his anime feature films like Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell, titles which were also screened on the Sci-Fi channel in the late ‘90s. In recent years he has stepped back from animation and moved further into live-action bringing Patlabor to the big screen in a series of films which will end when the final instalment, The Next Generation Patlabor: Shuto Kessen, is released on May 01st.

According to Anime News Network, Oshii previously awarded the Action Movie Competition 2012 top prize to a similarly titled short film by Kentarō Yamagishi.
