Hayao Miyazaki Receives Oscars Governors Award

Earlier this year, Hayao Miyazaki’s final feature length film, the semi-biographical The Wind Rises was nominated for the Best Animated Feature category of the Academy Awards. Although the prize ultimately went to Pixar’s Frozen, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced back in August that the critically acclaimed animator and director has been offered the Academy’s Honorary Governer Award, in honour of his contributions to his contributions and service to the industry.

Earlier this week, Hayao Miyazaki confirmed that he would be attending yesterday’s event in person and earlier today, the Academy uploaded a video of Miyazaki accepting the honour onto their YouTube channel:
