First Arpeggio of Blue Steel Film Out In Japan Next January

Back in June, it was revealed that two animated theatrical features based on the military science fiction manga Arpeggio of Blue Steel by Ark Performance have been green-lit. The first film is intended to be a recap of Sanzigen’s 2013 TV anime adaptation, while the second is to be a brand new work.

Today, the first feature was given a release date of January 2015 and the official title Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova DC. The movie’s opening theme song will be performed by the voice actress unit Trident (Mai Fuchigami, Manami Numakura, Hibiki Yamamura). Series director Seiji Kishi (Angel Beats!Persona 4 The Animation) will be leading the charge of production staff returning from the television series.

In Arpeggio of Blue Steel, humanity has lost a large quantity of its developed land as a result of global warming. They then lose the seas when a “Fleet of Fog” appears all over the world and overwhelms humanity. Seventeen years later, Gunzo Chihaya and his crewmates find themselves comandeering a “Fleet of Fog” submarine and together with the submarine’s “mental model”, they take the fight back to the Fleet of Fog.

Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed the original manga and are releasing the series in English speaking territories.
