Parasyte Part 1 Film Trailer

A trailer for the movie adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s sci-fi horror manga manga Parasyte (Kiseiju) has been released online and it looks like an action-packed ride.

Synopsis

Mysterious worm-like aliens tumble from the sky and penetrate people through their ears, nose and mouth and head to the brain to live-off and control it. Shinichi Izumi (Shota Sometani) was an ordinary high school student who was suddenly attacked by a parasite but he fought it off. For the most part. The thing still exists inside him but it lives in his right hand. Izumi learns to co-exist with the parasite and because of this he discovers the presence of the others. He’s being monitored by another parasite that inhabits the body of his teacher Ryoko Tamiya (Eri Fukatsu). With only his best friend Satomi Murano (Ai Hashimoto) to rely on, what can Izumi do? He can learn to work with the parasite who lives inside of him and battle the others who see humans as merely food.

The trailer shows action from the first of two movies adapting Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga which was originally serialised in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine from 1990-1995. The two films are part of a multimedia adaptation that includes a TV anime scheduled for the autumn season.

The staff behind the film include some impressive names. The director is Takashi Yamazaki, a big-budget action man with titles like Returner (2002), Space Battleship Yamato (2010) and last year’s box-office mega smash, the WWII saga The Eternal Zero. The scriptwriter is Ryota Kosawa, no stranger to big-budget hits with titles like Detective in the Bar (2013), and Phone Call to the Bar (2011).

The cast is even more impressive with a mixture of some of the hottest young talent in the Japanese entertainment industry and some veterans. Shota Sometani, who gave an amazing performance in the drama Himizu (2011) takes the lead role and his leading lady is Ai Hashimoto who was part of a strong ensemble cast in Confessions (2010) ,The Kirishima Thing (2012) and took the role of Mei Misaki in the live-action adaptation of Another (2012). Support comes from Tadanobu Asano and Jun Kunimura, both of whom starred in Vital (2004), an intensely beautiful exploration of memories, love and death which was directed by horror maestro Shinya Tsukamoto.

Parasyte will be released in Japanese cinema from November 29th.
