Chloe Grace Moretz Leads Princess Kaguya Cast

Studio Ghibli’s biggest film of last year was without a doubt Hayao Miyazaki’s (current) farewell piece The Wind Rises, but studio co-founder Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) had a theatrical feature of his own. The Tale of Princess Kaguya is the first film to be directed by Takahata in fourteen years and is based on the classic folktale “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter“.

The movie was licensed for release in North America by GKids, who have confirmed via Deadline that actress Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) will be playing the titular role of Princess Kaguya. Other cast members include James Marsden (X-Men), Lucy Liu (Charlie’s Angels), James Caan, Mary Steenburgen, Darren Criss, Beau Bridges, Oliver Platt and Dean Cain. The movie is planned to be released in North America on 17th October.

The English dub of the movie is being produced by Studio Ghibli and Geoffrey Wexler with Frank Marshall executive producing. The pair previously worked on other Ghibli-GKids collaborations such as From Up On Poppy Hill and The Wind Rises.
