Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Vita Game Coming To EU In July

Earlier this month, Yen Press published the first volume of Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online light novel series in English, in a move seen as both risky and exciting by the anime scene due to the shaky nature of light novel sales in the past. The reach of the franchise about players trapped in a virtual reality MMORPG game is only increasing though, as following an announcement of a release in the United States, PlayStation Europe confirmed today via a post on their blog that the PlayStation Vita game Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will be making its way to Europe this July courtesy of Namco Bandai Games Europe as a PlayStation Network exclusive, which will also bundle a HD remaster of the PSP game Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment!

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment was released in Japan at the end of last month and takes place in the same alternate world of Hollow Fragment, where players find themselves still trapped within the Sword Art Online video game following the events of the series’ first story arc, where Leafa and Sinon from the later Fairy Dance and Phantom Bullet story arcs find themselves trapped.

In an attempt to capture the feeling of a true MMORPG, up to four players will be able to join the game via ad-hoc wireless to go on raids and quests together. For those who do like the solo experience though, the game also includes a side-quest where you can take many of the franchise’s heroines on dates in your spare time.

MangaUK released the first Sword Art Online anime series on DVD and Blu-Ray in the United Kingdom, with a second due to start in Japan this July. Yen Press are also releasing the light novels and manga in English.
