New Work from Monkey Punch

TV Tokyo have announced a new TV anime called Bakumatsu Gijin-den Roman, a work from Monkey Punch… more specifically, a Pachinko casino game named “C Genroku Gijin-den Roman.”

Synopsis

Kyoto, the late 19th Century. “Roman” Manjiro is seen as a helpful person but just how helpful is unknown to most as he is a get-backer, a person who can get property back for people. Usually from men of power. Roman is about to get involved with a nationwide conspiracy.

Monkey Punch is most famous for his work on the Lupin III franchise, which many UK anime fans will know from the Ghibli film The Castle of Cagliostro. The staff include Hirofumi Ogura (Gintama, Kekkaishi) who is the director, Tatsuhito Higuchi (Toradora) who is in charge of series composition and Hirayama Satoshi (Lupin III) who is in charge of character design.

The voice acting cast has already been announced with Kazuya Nakai (Zagi in Jyu Oh Sei) taking the lead as Roman. He will be supported by Eri Kitamura (Riza in Princess Resurrection) and Maaya Uchida (Rea in Sankarea) amongst others.

The anime will air from the 7th of January 2013.
