Brighton Japan Festival

The Brighton Japan festival is a ten day event which kicks off from the 22nd June to the 01st of July with many traditional and modern Japanese art and cultural events packed into its line-up. People attending the festival can enjoy all sorts of things from taiko drumming to cosplay, Japanese fashion, Japanese whiskey, retrogames and Japanese bands like No Cars. Of specific interest to AUKN forumites will be the Asahi Anime Events which include manga drawing, cosplay contests and workshops, lolita fashion show, karaoke and J-Pop, an event called build-a-Gundam and Stalls selling the latest manga books, anime toys and kawaii fashion.

No festival would be complete without films and the Duke of Yorks Picturehouse cinema in Brighton will be screening some great titles including the 1997 J-horror classic Ringu, Ghibli’s latest film From Up On Poppy Hill, Sion Sono’s award winning Himizu and the highly regarded anime anthology Genius Party Beyond from Stuio 4C.

Check out the festival website for more information.
