Anime fans in London have a chance to see a screening of Hayao Mizyazaki’s brilliant Oscar-winning film Spirited Away on Saturday, 26th of November at 12-1.15pm when the Institute for Contemporary Arts screens it. In Spirited Away, a ten-year old girl named Chihiro who is moving to a new home with her parents but on the way there they wander into a magical kingdom and find themselves in a world where spirits and gods reside. Leaving might be a good idea but Chihiro’s parents are turned into pigs by an evil witch named Yubaba and Chihiro must take up work in Yubaba’s bathhouse in order to free herself and her parents from their circumstances. The screening is part of the ICA’s Intercourse: Cinema Programme aims to allow audiences to “Indulge in the best of fantastic animated cartoon features from around the world, for all the family, selected especially by the ICA’s INTERCOURSE Creative Team.” Also on the programme are David Lean’s classic take on Oliver Twist and the highly regarded French animation Kirikou and the Sorceress.
