New Cyborg 009 Adaptation

Shotaro Ishimori’s popular manga “Cyborg 009 is getting a new anime adaptation helmed by Kenji Kamiyma, director of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Eden of the East. The news was announced at a live event streamed by Niconice Live a four minute trailer of the stereoscopic 3D CGI film was shown.

The story follows a group of people who have been kidnapped from across the world for a project involving human experimentation. These people escape and turn their new powers against their former captors. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama, this is a co-production between Sanjigen and Production IG and features Yusuke Takeda (Blood: The Last Vampire, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) as the art director and Kenji Kawai handling the soundtrack.

This is not production I.G.’s first use of the characters as a short video was released online ealier this year when Mamoru Oshii produced a 3D Cyborg 009 anime for Panasonic.

The film has been given the title 009: Re:Cyborg and will premiere in the autumn of 2012.
