Anime screenings in London at the BFI, Barbican Fri, 23 May 2008

Booking is now open for the forthcoming anime season at the BFI Southbank in London. Running from the 20th of June until the 22nd, a diverse selection of the latest anime movies will be screened along side related live action productions, including the two live action Death Note films (which were released in Japan during 2005/06).

The highlight of the weekend will be an on-stage interview with director Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star), who is set to present his latest movie, the romantic drama 5 Centimetres per Second.

The full line-up for the BFI's anime season is as follows:

* = In addition to the above, London's Barbican cinema will be hosting a one-off screening of 2001's big budget anime movie Metropolis. Based on a manga by the influential Osamu Tezuka and adapted for animation by Akira director Katsuhiro Otomo, the retro-looking science fiction flick will be introduced by Helen McCarthy, co-author of the "Anime Encyclopedia".
