Originally released in June (original movie) and November (sequel) last year, the two "Death Note" live-action films finally get an English DVD and theatrical release in America - according to a recent press release from Viz Pictures (USA). The "Death Note" manga has already been published by Viz Media (USA) (finishing its run in July), and the "Death Note" anime starts its run in November. The live-action films are being planned for US DVD release in the Summer of 2008. The news comes as no surprise - as the two films were "smash hits" in Japan, with the second movie staying in the number one position for four weeks straight, and with the popularity of the manga in America and the upcoming highly anticipated anime release - it could come at no better time. No information has been presented of a possible UK release as of yet, however - with the franchise being as popular as it is, it can be assumed that it is only a matter of time. The way in which Japanese movies are released in the UK is much different to that of America - such examples being Studio Ghibli films being released solely by Optimum Releasing (UK) but some American releases being distributed by different companies. With the fact that "Battle Royale" has never had an American release, and the premiere release of "Brave Story" from Optimum Releasing (UK) has no planned American release at this point in time; it is safe to assume that "Death Note" could be announced from any company and at any time (although with the likes of "Naruto" and "Bleach" (which are also Viz Media (USA) properties), and a possible release of "Death Note" - from Manga Entertainment (UK) ) - so stay tuned for more news!
