Bandai Visual make Japanese video sales public Wed, 9 May 2007

Bandai Visual had made public the Japanese home video sales of its main franchises, as led by Mobile Suit Gundam's 11.9 million volumes. The company updated the frequently asked questions on its website's investor relations section Monday with the following list of its main franchises' domestic sales:

Note - the terms 'video sales' means video tapes, laser disc, dvd, ect.

Top 5 Bandai Visual Franchises -

Mobile Suit Gundam
First Video Release : December 1987
Units Sold (in millions) : 11.90

Ultraman
First Video Release : January 1988
Units Sold (in millions) : 5.78

Mobile Police Patlabor
First Video Release : April 1988
Units Sold (in millions) : 1.70

Ghost in the Shell
First Video Release : March 1996
Units Sold (in millions) : 1.70

Cowboy Bebop
First Video Release : October 1998
Units Sold (in millions) : 0.95

The sales figures above are current as of February of 2006. Overall, Bandai Visual holds 498 series which total 1,588 hours of footage. Every year on average, the company adds an additional 30 series and 100 hours.

According to animeanime.jp, the three recent Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion DVDs have sold 220,000 copies.
