Well when you consider how much they tweaked between the TV broadcast and the DvD/BR release it's probably a really great movie to go see if your in Japan.

For the rest of us however I think we'll be waiting for number 3

If anything, I'm more concerned about the final film than excited for it. I personally think the story of Madoka Magica should be left alone and I fear a continuation could kill it - especially as I doubt it will live up to the frankly, epic ending of the original TV anime.

I am looking forward to see how much the first 2 films will have changed and how they do with a movie budget.

Yes I guess there's always the possibility of he 3rd movie being terrible, the original series pretty much tied everything up nicely while also opening up a new potential ploty line.

I'd assumed they had just reused the series footage rather than animating it all afresh? Given how quick it all seems to be coming out. I'm sure they'll have to cut some bits down but overall surely its just a cut & paste job from the series?

Pretty much this, I want some of the drama CD stories (mainly 1 and 3) in the movies so they can flesh some of the characters out. This was one of the few criticisms I will have to agree with in the TV anime (although for me it was a tiny nitpick.)

Last thing I want is a re-edit of the Madoka TV series into these two movies, that would really disappoint me.

I'm not really going to talk about the third movie until we know more about it but i'm excited none-the-less.

@Reeveothemusefan Oh yeah, I forgot about the Drama CDs. Considering how the west really doesn't do Drama CDs (I'd say there was no market for them here, but has anyone actually tried?), it would be nice to be able to see the stories from them (at least, the more important ones, such as Mami and Kyoko) as opposed to having to read rough translations online. I'm not sure they will be included though, as they're already going to have to cram 12 episodes into 2 movies (Heck, what can they cut out?).

I do agree with Rosencrantz though in that the first two films are probably going to be mostly re-used footage. I think there was some talk a while ago about Sayaka's hair style slightly changing (Really? 0.o) but that seems to be it. I do hope that they at least give it a shinier coat of polish (the blu-rays for the main series were fantastic as it is, but with a movie-budget polish it could be phenomenal).

Sure, the main series did leave some little things open at the end...but I'm not sure if following those things would do the series justice. We know that
witches have been replaced with a new enemy (I think the English dub called them "Raids" or something to that effect?)
, but rather than it leading into a sequel, I thought that part was best left as a "There are still battles to be fought" kind of thing.

I believe it was
wraiths
Yes, the end was kinda unique in that it both tied everything up and allowed for a possible follow up

I'd really like to see some new footage but other than touching up what they have already touched up I'm not sure how they can add things without messing up the exitsing plot. Perhaps just even better battle sequences?
wraiths
makes a lot more sense. Not sure why I heard "raids".

I thought it was
demons
but that could be the Japanese version.

With Urobuchi involved, I am not entirely concerned about the third movie coming up with something interesting, but I am slightly worried that it will have to tread on the series' toes, so to speak, in order to provide something consistent with what people will want to see.

It would be easy to say that it doesn't matter either way, since the TV series will still exist "as is" even if the movie sucks, but you don't have to look much further than Star Wars or The Matrix to see that this doesn't hold true for most people.
