The British Film Institute (BFI) on London's South Bank is devoting the weekend from 8th-10th June to anime. It will be showing eight films, mixing the old and the new. Here is a full schedule of events.

8th June, 18.00: From Up on Poppy Hill - "The new film from Studio Ghibli is a compelling coming-of-age tale set just before the 1964 Tokyo Olympics."

8th June, 20.00: Fullmetal Alchemist 2 - The Sacred Star of Milos - Features a Q&A session with director Kazuya Murata and producer Masahiko Minami after the screening.

9th June, 16.00: Oblivion Island - "A masked creature takes a girl to a magical land in search of her late mother's hand mirror."

9th June, 18.30: Children who Chase Lose Voices from Deep Below - "An encounter with a bear-like creature brings a girl into contact with a warrior from an underground land."

9th June, 21.00: Gintama - The Movie - "An epic samurai sci-fi treat based on the hugely popular manga."

10th June, 16.00: A Letter from Momo - "A delightful anime that deals with big issues with great fun and imaginative flair."

10th June, 18.30: The Princess and the Pilot - "A beautiful girl from a noble family embarks on a perilous air journey with an ace pilot."

10th June, 20.45: Akira - "Seminal anime which almost single-handedly introduced the genre to audiences outside of Japan."

My excitement is slightly dampened in a few cases due to the timings (I'd have been thrilled if the Gintama showing had been before I'll have the blu in my hands). A very nice spread though overall; perhaps I can use some as excuses to catch up with some friends.

I saw this last month but lost track of it and forgot all about it. A Letter to Momo looks the best.

For those interested; I called the BFI today and was told that the tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday 8th May (box office opens at 11.30am everyday).

I want to see From Up on Poppy Hill, interested in a few others as well but as I'm going with a friend we'll see what we can catch. We went to the Anime season in 2010 to see the Evangelion Rebuild films and had a great time :-)

But but... I'm at a festival that weekend :(

Thankfully I've already seen most I want to see, but Momo would have been nice.
