It would be safe to assume that most people on this anime site are unfamiliar with nerdcore Hip Hop but rapper Richie Branson may be about to change all that with his new EP The Wing Zero.

The San Antonio rapper has revealed his otaku leanings and sampled the show for an EP inspired by the classic mecha anime. Listen past the samples and focus on the lyrics and you understand the depth of his love for the show. Take a listen to these tracks.

Thanks go out to Matt B for letting us know about the music!

My exact thoughts on opening this topic. I was disappointed, to say the least. I thought perhaps he had founded Virgin Animation to tell the story of some artists signed to his record label.

Dude, this isn't the first time.

Remember when Kanye did that Akira video? Or Lupe Fiasco mentioned Lupin III. Also, there was that whole "Bitch, I look like Goku" track Soulja Boy did.

Oh, and if you haven't, check out Childish Gambino.

RZA regularly references Dragon Ball. On the subject of Hip Hop and anime:

Hmm, that really is....err.. something. It's good that the guy is clearly enjoying himself and has the confidence to rap about what he's interested in. But I really don't think I could stomach very much of that, despite my love for both Hip Hop and anime. I just couldn't stop myself from cringing, I really did try, though.

There is the potential for a great parody track title with the clever (or not so clever) use of "Zecks".

@gash!? Are you havin a laugh mate!

I was cringing because, I guess I thought his bars were weak to be honest, and the whole Gundam/Otaku thing was just so in your face. It's the kind of stuff I would have thought a 14 year old would make (maybe he is 14?). I'm not trying to be harsh to the guy, though, I guess I just prefer my anime references a wee bit more subtle or finessed .
