Heh, weird link but I was listening to Giant Bomb's impressions of NFS: The Run on a old podcast last week, and I wondered if I should start reading Steel Ball Run. Sounds like it wouldn't be a bad idea!

Honestly, I can see that link. Steel Ball Run is the greatest fictional horse race. Ever. Seriously. I can't even state why it's so awesome without spoiling massive parts of it.

Great thing about it is that it's set in an alternate universe to the previous 6 parts, so you don't need too much info before going into it. Just remember, the Jojo's are good, Dio is a douche and you're all set to go!

Honestly wish more people would get into JJBA so that I could have proper conversations about it. There is, seriously, a vampire who is called Vanilla Ice. His stand is called Cream, also a musical reference. It is fantastic and wonderful! :D

Read the first chapter of Higurashi: Atonement Arc: Volume 1.

Rena has already had an 'adowable' moment. It's also fair to say that, so far, Rena herself is very adowable here.

Gonna make the descent harder to stomach now :(

Read Uzumaki yesterday. Hoo boy...

Basically I think it’s a brilliant set of, initially only vaguely, connected horror stories, well written and all pretty freaky. I’ll definitely be picking up the first two volumes in book form.

However, the sheer incredulity of the lead was a little annoying. What’ll it take for you people to stop treating Shuichi like a crazy person when he’s OBVIOUSLY right?

“I’m sorry for Shuichi, he’s been acting so strange lately”

Yeah, having both your parents die and the entire town being infested with spirals will do that to you.

“It’s the spirals! They’re everywhere” “Oh, Shuichi, you’re so silly, stop with your silliness” “GIRL YOU HAD MUDDA****IN SPIRALS GROWIN’ OUT YO HEAD!” “Ha! Such rampant silliness!”

Kirie's face was also drawn incredibly plainly, it was rarely emotive in the same way other characters’ were like Shuichi. Also, you’ll note that I said specifically I’d only be picking up the first two volumes; I felt everything went to hell in volume 3. It certainly wasn’t bad, but after the frequently varied stuff going on in the first two volumes,
the twisters got old pretty fast. I liked the rebuilding of the town into a spiral, though the final reveal was a little lacklustre (but then they always are. It’s hard to have a satisfying reveal in a horror story when it’s not a whodunnit).

The twister stuff wasn’t especially scary and more silly, much like the increasing number of snail people to the point where it became very one note. It worked in the individual snail story because it was gradual, but all these people seemed to turn really fast. I should also say that of all the things to turn into, snails are kind of one of the least threatening.
Nonetheless, I was overall very impressed and disturbed by Uzumaki and would definitely recommend it, especially since it’s so comparatively short.

Read "A Certain Scientific Railgun 2" today.

Have to say, I never knew teleportation could be used so awesomely.

Sparrowsabre7 - My older brother read Uzumaki once. Even now I like to show him spirals to torment him.
